Local man breaks record
July 6, 2010 Bill Lobins, 60, Martinsburg, broke a record twice while competing at the International Powerlifting Associations World Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships in York on June 27. The event was held at the York Barbell Weightlifting Hall of Fame and Auditorium. Lifters from several countries participated in the two-day event. Lobins, lifting in the Masters 60-64 super heavyweight division, set the IPA world record and also earned the Masters Best Lifter Award for lifters more than 40 years of age. With his opening attempt of 560 pounds, Lobins broke the existing IPA world record by 10 pounds. His second attempt with 600 pounds was turned down, not completely locking out the weight to the judges' satisfaction. He then lifted the 600 pounds again for his third attempt and set his second IPA world record of the day. After researching all national and international records for the major powerlifting federations, Lobins' 600-pound bench press makes him only the second man ever to reach this poundage, at his age, in a sanctioned powerlifting contest. No one older than 60 has ever reached the level, according to powerlifting sources. Lobins trains at the Summit Tennis & Athletic Club in Altoona with his lifting partner, Joshua Conley. ![]() Congratulations Wild Bill!!! Saturday, May 8. 2010The 2010 Theta Xi Great Ken Reddick Shootout & Picnic Another Huge Success!
We just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who attended and played a part in this year's Theta Xi Golf Outing & Picnic. A great time was had by all! We even made a few bucks thanks to Brother Palsha and the new associate members for selling raffle tickets. That money will go right back to help the new chapter as it gets re-established on the Clarion Campus.
Congratulations to this year's Champion, Skip "Stumpman Laird" who beat last year's Champion, Gary Manion, by one shot. Thanks to Brother Powney for all the great door prizes and to all those who donated prizes for the outing. Also a big thanks to Brother Mike Hartless & his wife for doing all the grilling! Another big thanks to Brother Smitty for getting our golf t-shirts done in record time on "very" short notice. We are already looking forward to making next year's outing even bigger & better. Hope to see all you Brothers at ALF the 1st Saturday in October! Pictures will start being posted. Again, just a BIG thanks to all of you that helped make the 2010 event a classic! Y.I.T.B. Friday, October 2. 2009Theta XIs Set To Invade Clarion For 2009 ALF!!!
It is that time of year again when the XIs invade Clarion for the infamous ALF on October 3, 2009. Yes, it is time once again to listen to the old BS stories, drink a "few" sodas & laugh our butts off!
We have a limited number of Theta Xi Alf Reunion shirts available if you are interested: two smalls; six mediums; five larges & four xtra larges. The XLs & Ls are $10 each and the Ms & Ss are two for $15. Please see Rich "MD" Mihalic at the Alumni Brunch or at the Loomis if you want one. Also, Annual dues of $20 are now due. Please make out your checks payable to: "Clarion Theta Xi Alumni Association". We all need to give our Alumni President, The Bus, a BIG thanks for all his time & work spearheading the effort of getting our Theta Xi Beta Omicron Chapter back on the Clarion Campus. Of course, we are sure he would also appreciate the offer of sharing a "cup-of-tea" with you also. Everyone involved in the Chapter re-establishment also needs to be congratulated. Take care, have a safe journey to Clarion & we will see all of you there! Most of us will be at the Alumni Brunch starting at 10:00 AM and then at the Captain Loomis at our usual spot for "cookies & milk" following the parade. Also check out the Alumni Reception at the Clarion VFW starting at 5:00 PM. Y.I.T.B. Alumni Board Monday, May 4. 20092009 Ken Reddick Great Theta Xi Shootout & Picnic Now History
The 2009 Ken Reddick Theta Xi Great Shootout and Picnic was held Saturday May 2, 2009 at the Clarion Oaks Golf Club. This year's Shootout Champion is Gary Manion who hung in there to take the "Manny Cup" home by beating Duck by one shot and Brady by two shots. Most improved honors went to Ted Organ after he fired a sizzling 132!
Following golf, the annual picnic was its usual "rowdy" success. George "the Chef" Levandowski made a surprise appearance and did an outstanding job cooking dogs, burgers, ribs & shrimp for the motley crew. Two half kegs of Kool Aid were consumed by the Brothers & friends before the festivities finally came to a close. A big thanks goes out to Steve Menzler, Weedie and Cathy & Danielle for getting things organized and selling raffle tickets. They were a huge part of this year's successful event. A special big thanks to Brother Jim Powney for all his work in getting the door prizes! We are already looking forward to next year! Pictures should be up shortly, so stay tuned. Y.I.T.B. The Brothers of our B.O. chapter and the Theta XI Educational Foundation of Pittsburgh have teamed up to try and re-colonize Theta Xi at Clarion University.
We are trying to raise $10,000 for this effort. We will keep a running update on the web site of our progress. To date, the following Alumni have donated $100: Lynn Casteel Ron Keyes Dennis Gareis William Redesill Kevin Bussey Jim Lapitsky Bill Lobins Mike Hart Rich Mihalic Vito Cedro Mike Piole Sunday, October 5. 2008Xis Invasion of ALF 2008 Once Again A Great Time!
ALF 2008 turned out to be a beautiful day and another great turnout by our Theta Xi Alumni. Thanks to Mike Davis & Truck for spearheading the meeting prior to the parade to inform us of what it is going to take to get the chapter back on campus. The meeting resulted in giving us one year to really get organized and try and get the funding in place to make it happen. Mike will be emailing us with a chronological order of events that have to take place.
Following ALF marathon parade, the brothers slowly made their way to the Loomis where mass quantities of "tea & crumpets" were enjoyed by all. Very special guest appearances were made by Brother Jack (BO 4) and Brother Dick (BO 19)!!! These guys were two of the original Founding Fathers of the Chapter! They may never be the same again---HA!HA!HA! Stay tuned for our usual barrage of "classic" pictures. We want to thank everyone who bought the new Xi ALF shirts and for all your support throughout the year. Getting the chapter re-established on campus will be a monumental task, but we need to give it our best shot! Do not forget that our $20 dues are due now for those of you that have not paid and we still have about a dozen shirts left to sell. There are a couple of XLs, several Ls, and a couple of Ms. Contact Rich "Mumble Duck" Mihalic if you would like to have one at rich_mihalic@yahoo.com. GO STEELERS!!! Great win in Jacksonville! Brother Wild, or is that Mild, Bill Lobins became the 2nd man in history to bench press 600 lbs at age 58 at a weight lifting event in Beaver Falls, PA today, 09/14/08!
CONGRATULATIONS! WILD BILL!!! Monday, August 4. 2008HUGE Xi Party Held at Brother George's Hospice in the Woods
Could this become and Annual Xi event? Brother George L (cause nobody can spell his last name) held a Xi "Sasquatch Hunting" Party at his hideaway in the woods near Brookville on August 4, 2008. Check out the pics! According to Brother Bus, "Heck, I never knew these guys existed!" and he wasn't talking about Sasquatch!

Even the rain could not deter 31 brave (??!!) Brothers from completing the 18 holes of this year's Annual Ken Reddick Great Golf Shootout at Clarion Oaks. There were nearly 100 Brothers, girlfriends and wives that attended this year's picnic. A special thanks to Ashley, Lindsay & Karleen for selling our raffle tickets and to Weedie for collecting for the picnic. Wild Bill Lobins & Dennis Gareis & Mike Hart & his wife did another outstanding job getting things organized and doing "some" of the cooking. The best thing they did, however, was to recruit George "The Chef" Lewandowski to take over the cooking. George promises next year's event to be an extra special one with all kinds of gourmet food! He actually learned to cook after jumping out of the old frat house Penthouse one ALF a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..........
This year's picnic resulted in a first for the Theta Xi Alumni. We actually kicked two kegs! Congratulations to this year's co-winners of the Gary Manion Trophy, Skip Laird and the "Rookie", Jarod Hudson. Both these Brothers shot great scores of 77 in the adverse conditions. Sko-Dog won the longest drive on #10 and no one can figure out how in the world he pulled that one off. Bussey promised to check his balls next year! However, the shot-of-the-day belonged to Ted "LongBall" Organ for his prize winning sizzling drive on #1.........a boomer if we ever saw one covering a total distance of 2 feet! He promised to practice harder for next year's tourney! Thanks to all the Brothers who donated door prizes! Big winner of the day in the raffle was Jim Powney who won the King Deluxe room at the Comfort Suites for this year's ALF. Congrats to the Pownster! Everyone is still trying to figure out how he is going to stay at the Loomis and use the room at the Comfort Inn..........stayed tuned! Pictures of this year's entire fiasco will be posted soon. Space "The Final Frontier", our infamous "Texan" photographer, was noticeably absent this year. Word has it he was vacationing in Mexico and they would not allow him back into the U.S. Bussey tells us another golf outing is in the works for later this summer somewhere in the Pittsburgh area. We will let everyone know as soon as we get the word. Thanks again to all the Brothers and their significant others for turning out and making this event the best yet! Y.I.T.B.
